Eagles Draft Watch: 5 potential trade targets to keep an eye on

The Philadelphia Eagles own the rights to a whopping 20 draft picks over the next two years, including 8 picks in this year’s draft. They don’t have enough uniforms, let alone roster spots, to sign all those players.

That is the biggest reason people in the know are sniffing around the Eagles’ nest. They have too much ammunition in the holster. And general manager Howie Roseman has shown a very itchy trigger finger in previous years. He’s going to make a move.

In fact, ESPN’s Adam Schefter went so far as to “guarantee” a trade on draft day. Citing absolutely no inside knowledge of Roseman’s plans, Schefter floated out a Day 3 trade, similar to what they did in 2023 when they parlayed picks for D’Andre Swift.

“I will guarantee you right now, we’re going to get a trade or two out of the Philadelphia Eagles,” Schefter said. “I don’t know for who, for what. I don’t know when it’ll happen but they ain’t gonna make 20 picks in the next two drafts. That ain’t happening.”

According to Schefter (nice Ricky Watters‘ reference by the way), Roseman will likely use his extra picks like Monopoly money to work the draft board. If he sees a player start to fall — Georgia standout Jalon Walker is one name to watch — or a disgruntled veteran suddenly become available, well, all bets are off. Roseman won’t hesitate to swoop in.

“It would be just like Eagles general manager Howie Roseman to package some of these picks either in this year’s draft or next year’s draft as well to move up the board if there is a player he really wanted,” Schefter said. “And it would be just like him and that organization to trade some of these future picks for a veteran that a team knows it’s not going to re-sign or it knows it’s moving on from.”

Eagles Draft Trades: Exploring 5 Potential Moves

1. DE Trey Hendrickson:

This is the longest shot since Michael Jordan vs. Larry Bird. Hendrickson’s dominance isn’t up for debate. He has 35 sacks over the past two seasons. However, he’s looking for at least $63 million over two years — that’s way out of the Eagles’ price range considering their salary-cap space right now. Still, never count them out from entering any sweepstakes, especially not when there is smoke in the air.

2. WR Rashid Shaheed:

The 26-year-old is a big play waiting to happen. That’s obvious. He has 10 receiving touchdowns, plus five rushing scores and two punt-return touchdowns since entering the league in 2022. Injuries were the only thing slowing him down. So, why would the Saints trade him? Well, Shaheed is playing on a one-year, $5.2 million contract in 2024, which is kind of the sweet spot for Roseman to make a deal. If he’s not part of the long-term plan in New Orleans — Kellen Moore likely wants to put his stamp on the offense — then this could be a one-year rental for a Day 3 pick … with an option to buy after the season.

3. DE/LB Jalon Walker:

The pass-rushing “tweener” has already been compared to Nolan Smith. Walker loves being mentioned in the same breath as the “relentless player” he was once teammates with at Georgia. He checks every box the Eagles value: good burst, very athletic, extra twitch, and, perhaps most importantly, strong leader and team captain. Getting Walker would likely involve trading up. He’s projected to go in the middle of the first round — No. 19 in CBS Sports’ mock draft — so Roseman would have to push his chips all-in.

4. TE Colston Loveland:

Sticking to a trade-up scenario, Loveland would be the perfect replacement for Dallas Goedert, or a complement to him for a one-year internship. The Michigan product is the second-best tight end in this year’s draft class (behind Tyler Warren), and he’s predicted to go in the Top-25. The Eagles own the No. 32 pick. He could be worth moving up for just for his catch radius and size. Loveland plays even bigger than his 6-foot-5, 237 pounds — although he’ll need Goedert to beef up his blocking.

5. DE Jadeveon Clowney:

Remember when Eagles fans were in an uproar about his dirty hit that concussed Carson Wentz in the 2020 playoffs? Clowney certainly has a reputation, but so did Ndamukong Suh and that didn’t stop Roseman from bringing him for veteran depth during the 2022 Super Bowl run. Clowney just turned 32 years old. You thought he was older? I know I did. While he has a lot of tread on those aging tires — 11 years and 140 games — he still racked up 5.5 sacks in 2024. He has accumulated 26 sacks over the past three seasons while staying relatively healthy. And Clowney is in the final year of a two-year, $20 million deal that the rebuilding Panthers would love to shed from the books.
