On Thursday, April 3, ESPN insider Shams Charania reported that there was an expectation that Tyrese Maxey would miss the rest of the season due to a sprained right finger. The Sixers initially refused to confirm the report but have now announced nearly a week later that Maxey will miss the rest of the season.
The Sixers announced the news via a press release to the media:
“During his ramp up to return to play, Tyrese Maxey reinjured his sprained right finger, which was confirmed by a recent MRI. Because of the reinjury and related pain and swelling, he will be unable to play for the rest of the regular season. He is expected to make a full recovery.”
Immediately, the verbiage used raises questions. The Sixers referred to the reason as a reinjury, something that has not yet been suggested. Thankfully, the Sixers seem to believe that Maxey can recover fully from this setback, though more questions are sure to come.
The Sixers have just three games left this season, including a Wednesday night matchup against the Washington Wizards.
