Baseball is back in Philadelphia, and despite being 3-1 to start the year, the Phillies are already dealing with some injuries. Some players have been stagnant for a bit, while manager Rob Thomson was able to provide an update on others.
Let’s check out the latest for the injured Phillies.
Trea Turner
Trea Turner was sidelined for games 2 and 3 with back spasms – something he told the media he dealt with throughout the spring. Turner was cleared to return to action before Monday’s home opener, but the club played things safe and kept him on the bench unless he was needed – which ended up being the case.
Turner returns to the lineup and the lead-off spot tonight before Game 5.
Ranger Suárez
Ranger Suárez is also dealing with back tightness, starting the 2025 season on the injured list. Suárez’s injury is more of a concern than some others on this list—he missed a month due to lower back soreness just last season with a similar issue. He was scheduled for an up-and-down bullpen session Tuesday in Clearwater.

Prior to Wednesday’s game, Thomson confirmed the bullpen session was 40 pitches and that it went well. If the left-hander feels good tomorrow, he will likely throw live batting practice on Friday.
Andrew Painter
Not much on the Andrew Painter front, but Destiny Lugardo of Phillies Nation did report that Thomson noted he is already scheduled to throw live BP on Friday in Clearwater.
Although this is not new reporting, General Manager Preston Mattingly was on MLB Network today, and confirmed that Painter is still expected to be ready for major league action in “July-ish.” Mattingly added that he would be added to the mix of starters around that time “if he’s throwing the ball well.
Weston Wilson
The latest on Weston Wilson still comes from Alec Kostival’s report on Monday:
After suffering a left oblique strain early in Spring Training, Weston Wilson seems to have a timetable for his return.

“This week, he’s going to see live pitching,” said Thomson. “Hopefully, next week, he’ll start a rehab assignment.”
Once he returns, Wilson will become an important bat off the bench against left-handed pitching.
