Following his win at Super Bowl LIX, Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni is entering the final year of the 5-year contract he signed in 2021. He is now likely set to be rewarded with a new contract, according to franchise owner, Jeffrey Lurie, after an impressive career with the Eagles.

Eagles set to reward Nick Sirianni with new contract

Sirianni’s 4-year stint with the Eagles has been nothing short of historical, winning two division titles, two conference championships and a Super Bowl in the first four years of his coaching career. For a man in his first coaching job, Sirianni has surpassed every expectation.

Before his appointment with the Eagles, the 43-year old has had stints with the Indianapolis Colts, the Los Angeles Chargers and Kansas City Chiefs, as an assistant coach.

While his lack of experience became a lingering concern upon his appointment, his infamous introductory press conference didn’t help matters. But now, the National Football League can’t in any way gainsay the benefits of his “system”.

Without doubts, his extension would see him further imprint his name in Philadelphia’s history books as one of the greatest coaches in the history of Philadelphia Eagles, as his appearance at Super Bowl LIX made him the only Eagles coach to advance to two Super Bowls.

Through his first four years in the NFL and with the Eagles, Sirianni owns a 48-20 record in the regular season and a 6-3 record in the playoffs. His latest victory at Super Bowl LIX was the cherry on top of his spectacular coaching career.

His 48-20 record marks the third-highest career winning percentage (.706) in the Super Bowl era, only behind John Madden (.759) and Vince Lombardi (.738) among Super Bowl winning head coaches.

Lurie, speaking at the NFL owners’ meeting hinted that a new deal was being worked on and that Nick Sirianni will be the one steering the Philadelphia Eagles’ wheel “moving forward,” although he didn’t go into much detail as regards the timing and content of the deal.

“You guys will find out soon enough that Nick [Sirianni] will be our coach moving forward,” Lurie said, via Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Nick Sirianni signed his current 5-year deal with the Eagles in 2021. It was a $35 million deal with an annual average of $7 million, ranking 16th among NFL coaches. For a coach that has impressed as much as Sirianni, a bumper contract is well deserved.

His coaching career has not only rewritten the Eagles’ history, but he has also made his mark in the NFL, as he is the only head coach in the last 40 years to make it to the playoffs in each of his first four seasons with the addition of two Super Bowl finals.

Sirianni was similarly assured regarding his contract extension, claiming the topic isn’t one that worries him in any way.

These things will take care of themselves. I’m not too concerned about it. I don’t really get into contracts with anybody. I’m not going to get into it on this one. It will take care of itself,” Sirianni said in an interview with Eliot Shorr-Parks of WIP.

One great accomplishment Siranni made for both himself and the Eagles was to avenge their loss against the Kansas City Chiefs before the expiration of his first contract.

Despite losing key free agents, the Eagles are looking to improve their squad with Sirianni, not just for the present, but for the future as well, as they begin their Super Bowl defense in the coming months.
