Detroit Pistons center Paul Reed may have left the Sixers nearly a year ago, but memories of his time in Philadelphia still haunt him, as shown by his recent comments regarding Nick Nurse’s team.

Paul Reed’s comment was an additional layer of chaos to the Sixers’ disaster this season in a tweet that sent waves of despair down the spines of the Sixers faithful, reminding them of their sad reality of having the fourth-worst record, struggling near the bottom of the NBA standings.

On X, the former Sixers center wrote,

“They thought I was the problem,” adding a facepalm emoji to express his disappointment.

His post was a subtle response to a tweet from The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Keith Pompey regarding the NBA reverse standings.

During his press conference following the Sixers’ win over the Mavericks, Nick Nurse was asked about Paul Reed’s comment. However, the Sixers’ coach clearly has more problems to worry about than the social media comments of an ex-player.

“I don’t have a response,” Nurse said. “We certainly didn’t think Paul Reed was a problem.”

Reed has all the bragging rights to make such a comment against his former team, writing his provoking tweet with the Pistons –sitting at the sixth seed in the East with a 39-32 record.

The Reed spent four years with the Sixers after he was drafted by the team in 20202 before leaving for the Detroit Pistons. With the Sixers, he played in 215 games, averaging 4.5 points and 3.6 rebounds, a record he is yet to surpass with the Detroit Pistons, where he’s averaging 4.1 points and 2.6 rebounds. His last season with the Sixers saw him feature in all 82 games after he was signed to a three-year $23 million contract in the 2023 off-season, but he moved on after just one year.

The Sixers can only look beyond this season’s failures, where they’ve fallen short of expectations, and look to improve on every one of their negatives. Regardless of the controversy surrounding Reed’s post, one thing was made clear: he doesn’t think he was the problem, and neither does Nick Nurse.
