The Philadelphia Eagles announced on Monday afternoon that future Hall of Fame RT Lane Johnson has signed a one-year contract extension with the team.
Eagles sign Lane Johnson to contract extension
Johnson was already under contract through 2026, and will now remain in Philadelphia through 2027. This reworked deal not only keeps the cornerstone in the City that drafted him for another year, but also gives him a well-deserved pay rise.
Adam Schefter notes that Johnson will be given another $8M over the next two seasons, along with an extra $30M in guarantees. This sounds like a big jump, but the veteran has been one of the most selfless players on the roster when it comes to reworking his contract to help the Eagles facilitate deals elsewhere on the roster and free up cap space.
Johnson is now a two-time Super Bowl champion with the Eagles and a five-time All-Pro. He’s spent his entire career in Philadelphia after being drafted with the fourth overall pick back in 2013. It’s been a remarkable career and one that has a few more chapters yet before one of the all-time Philadelphia greats rides off into the sunset.
