Everyone who follows the Eagles saw Mekhi Becton’s emotion when they secured a spot in the playoffs, his first time, and those who watched the Super Bowl saw Mekhi’s unadulterated love and appreciation after the game sitting on the field with his son wearing a big smile on his face. Mekhi was easy to root for because of his passion.

Becton was the only offensive starter not signed for the 2025 season, and it is no surprise the team wanted the offensive continuity. Those who saw and listened to Becton’s passion for the city hoped he would stay in Philadelphia, but reportedly, late Friday night, Mekhi Becton signed with the Los Angeles Chargers on a two-year deal.

The Chargers, under Head Coach Jim Harbaugh, love to run the ball. They are getting a former first-round pick with intimidating size and every trait one would want from an offensive lineman. He had his best season in the NFL, learning from Jeff Stoutland and playing with Lane Johnson and Jordan Mailata. He will now be alongside Joe Alt in Los Angeles, and he will bring everything he has learned with him.

The Eagles will seemingly move on to Tyler Steen who played well in Becton’s absence in 2025. Philadelphia also acquired Kenyon Green and could draft someone to create competition for the RG position. But there’s one special reflection that may have gotten loss in the midst of this reported deal. While Mekhi Becton is a first-round talent that deserves the big pay day and praise, it’s an even bigger testament to what the Eagles have within the walls of the Novacare Complex.

Becton struggled mightily during his time with the Jets and was seen as a reclamation project when the Eagles signed him to a one-year prove it deal. He went from struggling as a tackle to becoming one of the larger guards in the league and even one of the better players at his new position. The Eagles have always fancied themselves of being a factory of some sorts for different positions but the statement stands true for the offensive line. Jeff Stoutland’s ability to develop players and get the best out of them is second to none.

The proof is in the pudding for Stoutland and the Eagles. They once drafted a former rugby player who never played a down of American football and turned him into one of the better left tackles in the league. A franchise altering player that made it easy for the Eagles to move on from the legendary Jason Peters and former first-round pick, Andre Dillard.

While losing Becton will sting for the moment, the Eagles are already at the drawing board and have ther eyes set on who their next guy in line is. I’m sure they will find success in him as well, whether it is Tyler Steen or Kenyon Green.
