The Philadelphia Flyers found themselves trying to exit a five-game losing streak last night. Luckily for them, they were able to get back into the win column by the end of the clash against Tampa Bay.
While the game went to a shootout, and the Flyers couldn’t find success on the power play, it was still one of their better games. Sam Ersson was between the pipes and played a good night at the office, as he was a proper lifeline for the orange and black.
Flyers vs Lightning recap
Bobby Brink had one of his best games of the season with two goals, and Ryan Poehling would find the back of the net, getting his fifth goal. Olle Lycksel assisted Brink’s first goal and Poehling’s goal for a two-point game. Brink was also able to get secondary assistance for Poehling’s goal.
The teams had to adjust to losing some veteran players, and the younger guys are finally stepping up against a good Tampa team.

A familiar face returned to the Wells Fargo Center in Cam Atkinson. The Flyers played a video tribute to Atkinson in the first frame. All the applause for the Tampa Bay forward ignited one of his better games as he was able to tie up the contest early in the third period. This was Atkinson’s fourth goal of the season.
Both teams couldn’t find the back of the net in OT, which led to a successful shootout for Philadelphia. Matvei Michkov and Owen Tippett got the puck past, and Jonas Johansson gave the Flyers two more points.
While the Penguins are in last place in the Metropolitan, the Flyers remain in seventh, which sets them up to still get a good pick in the upcoming draft. Although the team isn’t going to make the playoffs, there is still pride in trying to find the win column.
The Flyers return to action Saturday night for their final game for the homestand as they host the Hurricanes.
