According to Andrew of Inside The Birds & Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the Philadelphia Eagles plan on bringing back LB Patrick Johnson on a one-year deal.
After spending the first chapter of his career with the Eagles, the former 7th-round pick headed to New York in 2024 to play in 12 games for the Giants. He appeared in 83% of their special teams snaps, a career-high in that area, having clearly found his niche with a new team.
But with the season now over, Johnson, per DiCecco, wanted to come back to Philadelphia.
This is a solid move for the Eagles, who could always benefit from special teams depth. Johnson flashed for the Eagles on multiple occasions and notably enjoyed a strong preseason. He developed well during his initial stint with Philly, but constant changes of the guard at defensive coordinator might have hindered his progress and placing on the depth chart.
He’ll rejoin his former team with a chance to fight for some more special teams snaps and potentially an expanded role on defense if he can show the versatility and explosiveness to rush the passer as he’s flashed on occasion throughout both his college and NFL career.
