It’s been a rollercoaster of emotions for fans after seeing the Eagles quietly sit back and watch as free agency exploded with move after move in the first 24-36 hours. Philadelphia made its first signing Wednesday night, signing former Green Bay running back AJ Dillon. Thursday morning they made a second move, bringing in former Kansas City linebacker Joshua Uche on a one-year deal according to Adam Schefter.

Eagles sign former Pats pass-rusher

The financial specifics of the deal are not known at the time of writing, but it is a one-year deal. Uche (OO-shay), has spent five seasons in the NFL, originally drafted by the Patriots in the second round out of Michigan. The 26-year-old played in seven games for New England before being traded during the regular season in October to Kansas City for a sixth round pick where he played in six more contests with the AFC Champions. In his pro career, he has played in 64 games while making four starts with 86 tackles and 20.5 career sacks.

His best season in the league came in 2022 with New England when he racked up a career-best 11.5 sacks in 15 games where he came in as a rotational pass rusher. He has had three sacks or fewer in every other season. Entering 2024, Uche had a career pass-rush win rate of 17.2% according to Pro Football Focus. That mark would have put him inside the top 25 in the NFL as an edge rusher this season.

Uche will look to fill the void left by Josh Sweat signing with the Arizona Cardinals and the possible retirement of Brandon Graham if he does decide to call it a career.

The Eagles are still a little light at the EDGE position, but with a full offseason ahead, that likely won’t stay the case for long.
