Only two teams remain perfect in MLS after Matchday 3.
The Philadelphia Union defeated the New England Revolution to start the season 3-0-0 for the first time in club history, and the Vancouver Whitecaps took down CF Montreal to also become 3-0-0 for the first time in their history.
Looking at the bottom of the standings, the LA Galaxy have dropped all three league matches so far. They were blanked by St. Louis City SC on Sunday, 3-0. The Galaxy are 0-4-0 across both league and Concacaf Champions Cup play. They’ve also only scored one goal in 2025.
Let’s take a look back at some of the best matches from Matchday 3.

Union score two late goals to defeat Revs
Tai Baribo remains on fire! He has scored in all three matches to begin the season and is leading the MLS Golden Boot race with six goals. Against New England, Baribo scored in the 76th minute to break the 0-0 deadlock. His sixth goal ties an MLS record for the most goals in the first three games of an MLS season.
In the 90+7′, Jovan Lukic scored his first ever goal for the Union. Lukic’s goalazo secured the third straight win for The Boys in Blue.
The Union is first in the Eastern Conference and first in the Supporters’ Shield standings. They also lead the league with 10 GF.
Galaxy drop third straight in MLS against St. Louis
A worst written script may not be possible for the LA Galaxy in 2025. Across both league play and CCC, they are 0-4-0 and have only scored ONE goal in league play. Despite having 24 shots with eight on target against St. Louis SC on Sunday, the Galaxy lost 3-0. St. Louis had 14 shots with just five on target, and scored on three of those shots.
Injuries have contributed to the Galaxy’s horrid start, but that excuse won’t last long. As of now, they are the first defending champions to lose their first three straight games.
Whitecaps defeat Montreal to remain unbeaten
The Vancouver Whitecaps have also started 3-0-0 for the first time in club history after beating CF Montreal, 2-0. It was a historic win, but it was overshadowed by Ryan Gauld’s exit during the first half with a knee injury. Gauld will likely miss some time from game action.
Vancouver sits first in the Western Conference with nine points, and leads the West in GF with eight. They are also in the CCC and will take on CF Monterrey this Wednesday.
Chicago Fire get first win under Gregg Berhalter
Gregg Berhalter’s move to become the new head coach of the Chicago Fire during the offseason was a popular topic of discussion. Chicago brought in new additions, especially former Union defender Jack Elliot. They were also in rumors to sign Neymar, but that did not happen.
Against FC Dallas over the weekend, Chicago picked up its first three points under Berhalter. They drew in their opening match against Columbus Crew to begin the season, then drew with D.C. United. The 3-1 win over Dallas was big, considering the Fire have hopes of becoming contenders in MLS’s East again.
San Diego jumps into second in the West
San Diego could not have asked for a better start in its inaugural season. In its first three games, the team has picked up seven points and conceded only one goal.
Against Real Salt Lake, they found themselves down in the match early but scored three consecutive goals, two of which were in stoppage time in the 90th minute, to steal three points.
Andres Dreyer has gone above and beyond for San Diego early on. He scored twice in the club’s debut in Matchweek 1, and scored once against Real Salt Lake over the weekend.
