Despite the Philadelphia Eagles winning Super Bowl LIX in dominant fashion over the Kansas City Chiefs, reality has started to sink in. The Eagles will now have to deal with several losses on the team’s coaching staff due to their success, headlined by the departure of offensive coordinator Kellen Moore.
Following Philadelphia’s loss in Super Bowl LVII, the Eagles dealt with a ton of change across Nick Sirianni’s coaching staff. There were key coaches poached on offense and defense, including both coordinators. Which forced Philadelphia to promote several coaches from within or hire less experienced coaches to fill key positions on Sirianni’s staff.
Due to the team’s failure during the following season in 2023, many fans of the team were left scarred. The thought of Philadelphia promoting current pass game coordinator and associate head coach Kevin Patullo to offensive coordinator brings back memories of Brian Johnson’s struggles.
Yet Patullo isn’t Johnson and the Eagles are in a far better situation in 2025 than they were in 2023. While many are quick to simply dismiss Patullo as a close friend of Sirianni’s, the 43-year-old has a wealth of NFL coaching experience and deserves an opportunity to be the next offensive coordinator in Philadelphia.
Kevin Patullo Will Be in Position To Succeed with Eagles

In 2023, the Eagles dealt with so much change across Sirianni’s coaching staff, on both sides of the ball. While many are concerned that Patullo would face the same fate as Johnson, they would be dealing with drastically different situations.
Following Super Bowl LVII, Philadelphia had to replace six different coaches at key positions. Due to a deep postseason run, the Eagles were left picking from the scraps at the end of the coaching cycle and hired several inexperienced coaches to fill key roles in the City of Brotherly Love.
Philadelphia’s new offensive coordinator, QB coach, LB coach, DB coach and assistant DB coach had just 10 years of NFL coaching experience combined in 2023. For comparison’s sake, Patullo has 15 years of NFL coaching experience by himself. Therefore, it isn’t fair to compare Patullo to Johnson, who had just two years of NFL coaching experience before being promoted to offensive coordinator.
Another commonly used strike against Patullo’s candidacy as offensive coordinator is that he’s just a close friend of Sirianni’s. In reality, Patullo started coaching in the NFL before Sirianni did and only worked with him for three seasons before joining the Eagles.
In fact, Shane Steichen worked together with Sirianni for four seasons before joining the Eagles. He spent just one season as an NFL offensive coordinator with the Los Angeles Chargers before heading to Philadelphia. Yet nobody complained that Steichen was just a friend of Sirianni’s and didn’t deserve the job.
Patullo has cut his teeth working a variety of roles for six different teams across 15 seasons in the NFL. He has served as the middle man to blend Sirianni’s vision with Steichen, Johnson, and Moore since arriving in Philadelphia. Now it’s finally his turn to step up and fill the void at offensive coordinator for the Eagles.

After being hired as the next head coach of the Saints, Moore actually credited Patullo with helping him get acclimated in the City of Brotherly Love.
“The first few weeks in Philadelphia, I was really mostly a listener,” Moore said, according to Albert Breer of SI. “Letting Stout (Jeff Stoutland) explain where the run game was at, Kevin Patullo explain where the passing game is at, showing those cut-ups and starting with the intent of keeping what is in place that we feel really good about. And then I’d interject with different opportunities or concepts that I feel may benefit us in the future.”
“You had to be a really good listener, you learned how to embrace something that maybe you’re not as familiar with. We ask all players to go through that. Us coaches need to do it sometimes too.”
After helping so many others get acclimated in Philadelphia, now it’s Patullo’s turn to be a really good listener. Since 2021, he’s helped turn Jalen Hurts into an efficient quarterback and Super Bowl MVP. In 2025, Patullo will likely finally get his chance to shine as the Eagles offensive coordinator.
