As a part of their impressive rookie class this offseason, the Philadelphia 76ers signed undrafted rookie Justin Edwards to a two-way contract. The former top prospect struggled in his lone season at Kentucky, but a return to familiar scenery did wonders as Edwards has proven himself with every opportunity the Sixers have given him.
The Philly native has performed well this season, averaging 8.1 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 1.4 assists in 23.9 minutes of action over 22 games. Over his last 10 games, Edwards’ scoring average is up to 10.1 points per game. As Edwards’ portfolio of work continues to grow, should he keep this level of play up, he has an opportunity to be considered for an NBA All-Rookie team.

To reward Edwards for his stellar play, the Sixers are signing him to a standard NBA contract with a second year that has a player option; the Philadelphia Inquirer’s Keith Pompey was the first to report.
As Pompey noted, the player option for the 2025-26 season allows for both the Sixers and Edwards to explore a longer-term deal this offseason. Initial expectations were for Edwards to sign a deal similar to Ricky Council IV’s rookie conversion deal, but Edwards has outperformed Council’s rookie season, and his representation, Klutch Sports, is known for its negotiating abilities.
While longer-term negotiations will wait, Edwards’ future, as far as can be seen, is in Philadelphia. The Sixers now have 14 filled roster spots — including Chuma Okeke on a 10-day contract, leaving the team with an open roster spot and an open two-way slot should they wish to fill them.
