The signings keep on coming for the Philadelphia Union.
On Thursday, the Union signed Union II defender Frankie Westfield to a homegrown contract through 2028 with an option for 2029.
On Wednesday, the Union acquired 23-year-old midfielder Jovan Lukić from FK Spartak Subotica on a permanent transfer through 2026 with club options in 2027 and 2028.

Westfield gets a Homegrown deal
Westfield, 19, played in 26 games, all starts, for Philadelphia Union II during the 2024 season. He scored seven goals and registered six assists during the regular season. In the MLS Next Pro Playoffs, Westfield started in all four matches, registered 390 minutes played, and scored one goal. He also served as the co-captain for Union II throughout the season. He is now the 27th Homegrown player to sign a contract with the club.
“Frankie is a talented and versatile young defender. His ability to use both feet effectively allows him to impact the game on both sides of the field, and his role as U II’s vice-captain last season makes us confident in his maturity and leadership potential on and off the field. We’re excited to see the contribution he’ll bring to the first team,” said Ernst Tanner in a press release from the club.
Apart from the Union, Westfield has also seen game time on the U.S. Youth National Team. He was called up to the U.S. U20 Men’s Youth National team in 2024 and made two appearances.
Westfield won 33 tackles, 210 duals, and recorded 46 interceptions in a breakout 2024 season. His value only rose throughout 2024, and that earned him a homegrown deal on Thursday.

Lukić joins on a permanent transfer
Joining the Union from FK Spartak Subotica of the Serbian Super League, Lukić scored two goals in 39 appearances throughout two seasons. He was part of the Serbia U-21 team last March and quickly rose through Serbia’s youth ranks.
“Jovan is a dynamic, ball-winning midfielder who fits well into our playing style. His experience across European leagues has not only showcased his versatility but also his ability to adapt to different styles of play, and we are confident his skill set will bolster our midfield,” said Ernst Tanner in a press release from the club.
Lukić’s acquisition also means that the Union has all seven of their international roster spots filled. Lukić joins a Union midfield that is rebuilding after trading Jack McGlynn to Houston Dynamo FC and José Martinez, whom they sold to Corinthians last season.
His play in the midfield and style of distribution of the ball should mix well with the new style that head coach Bradley Carnell is trying to implement.
Both Westfield and Lukić will be players to keep an eye on regarding their development and style of play during the 2025 season.
