According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Dallas Cowboys have requested to interview Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore for their vacant Head Coaching role.

Cowboys targeting Eagles OC Kellen Moore

This shouldn’t come as a huge surprise. Kellen Moore is a bright young mind that the Cowboys know extremely well. After a few years in the QB room as a player, he worked with the team as a QB Coach in 2018 before receiving a promotion to offensive coordinator one year later. He held that role for 4 seasons before jumping to Los Angeles to fill the same boots for the Chargers.

Fast forward one more year, and he joined the arch enemy of the Cowboys and helped pave the way for Saquon Barkley‘s MVP-worthy campaign. Moore’s offense ended his first his season with the Birds ranked 8th in the NFL in yards per game, and while they only ranked 29th in passing, they ranked 2nd in rushing thanks to Barkley’s magical debut campaign.

Even with a slightly disappointing passing attack, Jalen Hurts posted a career-high in completion percentage and a near-career low in interception percentage (1.4%). He also matched career-highs in average yards gained per pass attempt and 4th quarter comebacks.

This is concerning for the Eagles. The one thing the team has struggled to do over the last few years is find a consistent floor with coaching staff. Stability is not something synonymous with the Philly offense and it’s something Jalen Hurts himself has spoken about previously.

It also comes at a very inopportune time (we all remember the Jonathan Gannon saga), with the Birds set to lock horns with the Rams this weekend in the postseason. Of all the teams to unsettle a coach with an interview of that magnitude, the one you’ve spent the majority of your career playing and coaching is probably the worst possible outcome.

Hopefully the Eagles can keep Kellen Moore in the City of Brotherly Love, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see him get his first Head Coaching role after the season he’s had.
