The Sixers fell to the Phoenix Suns Monday night. Adding insult to injury, wing Kelly Oubre has officially been assessed a $2,000 fine for flopping, the NBA announced Tuesday afternoon.
The incident occurred midway through the first quarter as Oubre attempted to defend Suns guard Devin Booker and was sent flying in reverse. The contact looked clear but paled compared to how Oubre sent himself backward.
This was Oubre’s first game back from a three-game absence due to a lefthand sprain. Flop—and the loss—aside, Oubre’s return was a massive success as he scored 26 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. It was instantly clear, as it was during his absence, that Oubre plays a critical role on this team, one that adjusts based on what the Sixers need.
Oubre and the Sixers will next face the Washington Wizards, the team who drafted Oubre, and look to be incredibly shorthanded heading into the matchup. Philadelphia sits at just 14-20 on the season and find themselves in desperate need of a win against the NBA’s worst team.
