The Philadelphia 76ers made their way down to Charlotte for their third matchup against the Charlotte Hornets within their first 25 games this season. Having already successfully defeated the Hornets in their first two outings, the Sixers were looking to go up 3-0 on the season series.
Philadelphia started off hot, scoring the first seven points in this one. Charlotte fought back with their own eight-point run, and the back and forth was on until the Sixers pulled away on an eight-to-three run to close the quarter.
The Sixers were up by five at the half, but a 41-point third quarter gave them a seemingly comfortable 16-point lead heading into the fourth and final quarter. Charlotte would go on a quick 14-2 run to open the quarter, and suddenly, the Sixers found their lead down to just four points.
The Sixers’ defense would pick up again as Tyrese Maxey checked back in with seven and a half minutes left on the clock. Philadelphia would pull away and seal the game on a barrage of free throws off intentional fouls.
Paul George surpassed Jason Terry and now ranks tenth for the most threes made in NBA history with 2285 threes. George now just sits five made three-pointers behind Vince Carter, who made 2290 threes in his career. Who knows, George could even accomplish this in his next game,
Up next for the Sixers
The Sixers will return home for the fourth and almost certainly final matchup against Charlotte this season. As much as Sixers fans would love to see the team face some other squads, the Hornets also account for 37.5% of Philadelphia’s wins this year, so fans shouldn’t be too ready to put this team behind them and enjoy the series while it lasts.
Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 20 and you can catch the game on NBC Sports Philadelphia or listen live at 97.5 FM The Fanatic.
