The Philadelphia Phillies are on the board.
The Phillies have signed veteran reliever Jordan Romano, formerly of the Toronto Blue Jays.
In his career, Jordan has pitched to a 2.90 earned run average and 285 strikeouts.
Romano, a right-handed relief option, spent all six of his major league seasons with the Jays. He was primarily their closer, where he totaled 105 career saves. During the trade deadline, there were rumors that the Phillies were interested in trading for Jordan Romano. Ultimately, they went after Carlos Estevez instead. Last season, Romano dealt with injuries that had cost him most of the season. If he can return to form, this is a home run signing for the Phillies. At worst, the saying goes, “There is no such thing as a bad one-year contract.”
Edit: The deal for Romano reportedly is one year, 8.5 million dollars.
This does not take the Phillies out of the market for Jeff Hoffman or other veteran relievers at this point in time.
