The Philadelphia Flyers took a quick trip to Boston for their final meeting, looking to win the season series. However, despite having the lead for most of the game, the road team fell short.

Sam Ersson is on IR but is day-to-day, so Aleksei Kolosov got the start in net for the orange and black after coming in for Ivan Fedotov in the game against the Florida Panthers earlier this week.

Flyers vs Bruins recap

The first frame was all Philadelphia. Matvei Michkov had two goals, which puts the rookie at 11 goals for the season. After scoring his first in the contest, Michkov also became the first rookie to score ten goals. After 20 minutes, the Flyers lead the Bruins by 2-0.

However, Boston’s Trent Frederic scored a power-play goal to bring the lead back to one. Cam York gave the Flyers a two-goal lead once again after scoring his third of the season towards the end of the second period.

In the final frame, the momentum changed drastically. Not only did the Flyers have three penalties against them, but two were not the right calls, and Boston was able to tie up the game. While none of the goals came from Boston being on the power play, it gave the Bruins confidence. Travis Konencny had an interference call on him against Charlie McAvoy, which was not a reasonable penalty to take at that stage of the game. However, Konency got pulled from the penalty box for concussion protocol but returned to the bench shortly after.

As mentioned, the Bruins even upped the game at three a piece, so the contest went to extra minutes. While Konencny returned to the bench, John Tortorella did not play him. Konencny is a massive staple to the Flyers’ overtime unit, which was a significant loss. Iff the reason is that Konency had a foul penalty, that isn’t out of character for the head coach.

While in overtime, the one glimmer of hope was Joel Farabee on a breakaway that Jeremy Swayman shut down. However, the overtime units could have looked better. Tippett was slow to the puck and battles, which is not what you want out of a player that you just signed to an 8-year extension.

Pavel Zacha scored the game-winning goal for the Bruins (4-3). The Flyers have now lost two consecutive games where they had the lead heading into the final frame. With the team picking up an OT point, they extend their road point streak to seven. Philadephia gets ready to host the Utah Hockey Club tomorrow at 7:30.
