PHILADELPHIA, PA — Following the team’s shootaround ahead of their Friday night matchup against the Brooklyn Nets, Sixers forward Guerschon Yabuesele addressed the media, touching on the team’s disappointing start to the season and how they can turn things around.
“Just to stay focused and stay positive,” Yabusele said. “It’s a long season, so we have to keep [up] the effort and stay together.”
The Sixers, expected to contend for a title this season, have experienced what might be the most dramatic start to a season in franchise history, which is an impressive accomplishment.
Fourteen games in, the Sixers hold the worst record in the entire NBA, sitting 2-12 on the season. Injuries have constantly plagued the team’s stars, the most recent example being a second bone bruise to the left knee of offseason acquisition Paul George. This comes after a hamstring injury to Tyrese Maxey and the curious case of Joel Embiid.
Still, Yabusele’s message was not one of “woe is us” but rather optimism based on recent performance.
“You take a look at the second half against Memphis,” said Yabusele. “(We) really showed different character, really getting stops, and even though they had the lead, we came back at the end of the game, so it was still good things for sure.”
The Sixers are currently on pace for their third-worst season in franchise history, which dates back to 1949-50, when they were the Syracuse Nationals. It will take a change in their luck, but more importantly an immense amount of work for the team to turn their season around, but it is not impossible, especially if they start today.
