PHILADELPHIA, PA — With all the news surrounding the team, from the latest on Paul George‘s injury to the latest on Joel Embiid‘s injury, one may forget that the Sixers also played a game of basketball Friday night, welcoming the Brooklyn Nets.
Shortly before the start of the game, the Sixers announced that Joel Embiid would miss the game due to what was later revealed to be “swelling in his left knee.” For more on that, you can read here, because we’re here to talk about what actually happened on the hardwood.
With a lineup of Tyrese Maxey, Jared McCain, Kelly Oubre, Caleb Martin, and surprisingly enough, Guerschon Yabusele, the Sixers looked to overcome their division rival and win their first NBA Cup game, their third total win of the increasingly aging season.
The young backcourt, who critics have called redundant, led the way for Philadelphia, combining for 56 points.
After taking punch after much in the form of both injury and insult this season, the Sixers responded in a big way in front of their home crowd, restoring some sorely needed faith for the fans.
Up next for the Sixers
The Sixers will remain at home for a Sunday matchup against the Los Angeles Clippers. This game will mark the debut of the Sixers’ 2024-25 City Edition jerseys, and while Joel Embiid and Paul George will not be in the lineup, the team will have the wind of this victory in their sales.
Hopefully, that, plus the Sixers’ dynamic guard duo, is enough to make it two in a row.
