PHILADELPHIA, PA — It was a frustrating series of events Friday that began with Sixers star Joel Embiid popping up as “questionable” with a plan to revisit after his walkthrough. However, Embiid would never partake in his walkthrough and would be downgraded to OUT shortly before the start of the game.
During the Sixers‘ NBA Cup matchup against the Brooklyn Nets, an update was provided on the health status of star center Joel Embiid. Unfortunately for Sixers fans, it was not a positive development.
As the second half was beginning, the team announced that Embiid was dealing with swelling in his left knee, which caused his absence, and, in a decision made in consultation with the team’s medical staff, would cause him to miss Sunday’s matchup against the LA Clippers as well.
According to the team, he is receiving treatment, and an update on his status is expected to come early next week.
This news follows an update from head coach Nick Nurse that Paul George will miss at least the next two games: the Friday night matchup against the Nets and Sunday’s game against the Clippers.
Regrettably, Sunday’s matchup is also the debut of this season’s City Edition uniforms, for which two of the team’s top three stars will miss the game entirely while the third remains on a minutes restriction.
They say it’s always darkest before the dawn. Unfortunately, there’s no telling how much further it is until the Sixers reach that dawn.
