After previously announcing that defensive end Bryce Huff would be undergoing wrist surgery, the Philadelphia Eagles confirmed on Friday that he’s been placed on injured reserve. This means that the Huff will miss at least 4 weeks of regular season play.
Eagles place Bryce Huff on IR
The injury comes at a weird point. It’s crunch time. The Eagles are nearing the end of the regular season and every win matters with the Commanders breathing down their necks. On the other, those 4 games consist of playing:
The Los Angeles Rams
The Baltimore Ravens
The Carolina Panthers
The Pittsburgh Steelers
*maybe* The Washington Commanders
These aren’t exactly easy matchups and this is the toughest stretch of play the team will have between now and the end of the season, so losing your starting edge-rusher isn’t ideal.
With that said, Huff hardly stole the show during his debut campaign. The former Jet signed a monstrous $51M contract this past offseason on the back of a 10-sack season with New York. He hasn’t really been able to develop into the full-time EDGE that the Eagles need him to be, and he’s recorded 2.5 sacks and 4 QB hits up to this point.
In terms of replacing Huff, the Eagles will look to both Nolan Smith and Jalyx Hunt, whom I wrote about earlier today.
The Eagles and Rams will clash under the primetime lights on Sunday night.
