The Philadelphia Flyers (8-9-2) will look to start a new winning streak tonight as they welcome the Carolina Hurricanes (13-4-0) to the Wells Fargo Center for a 7:30 pm start. The game will be featured nationally on the TNT Network as well as the MAX subscription service.

On Monday night, the Flyers lost a close 3-2 game to Colorado. Philly had won three straight games entering Monday night’s contest. Philadelphia is 4-2-1 in November after a rocky start to the 2024 season. Things are trending in the right direction for the Orange and Black with a 6-3-1 record in their last 10 contests. The Flyers are still looking for their first division win of the season with a 0-3-0 record this season.

Carolina (13-4-0) has continued to stack wins after beating Philly two weeks ago at home. The Hurricanes have won 3-out-of-4 games. Carolina is among the hottest teams in the NHL with an 8-2-0 record over their last 10 games. The Hurricanes are undefeated against Metropolitan Division teams with a 5-0-0 record.

Flyers Lost First Meeting in Early November

On Nov. 5, Carolina defeated Philadelphia, 6-4,  in the first meeting of the season between the two teams. The Hurricanes stormed out to a 3-1 advantage before the Flyers battled back to level the game at 4-4 midway through the third period. Carolina’s top center, Martin Necas, fired a puck past Flyers Aleksei Kolosov for the game-winner with 31 seconds remaining in the final frame. Travis Konecny scored twice for Philly in the contest.

John Tortorella ended today’s morning meeting with the media praising a Carolina Hurricanes organization who have made six straight NHL playoff appearances. “We’re playing basically the same style,” Tortorella said. “I don’t know how Roddy teaches it, but we want to press, we want to check, and we want to take chances. I think it looks similar. I don’t think we’re as fast…I think they are a deeper team than we are. But that is going to be the blueprint as long as I have the opportunity to coach this team.

After tonight’s game in South Philadelphia will not see Carolina again until the end of the regular season in March 2025.

New Helmet Sponsor + Free Chevy Parking Tonight

The familiar hockey helmet of the Philadephia Flyers is undergoing a makeover of sorts. The iconic “Winged P” Flyers logo is being replaced with another well-known business logo, Chevrolet. Philly announced a partnership deal with the Local Chevrolet Dealer group on Wednesday morning with the new decals appearing on helmets at the optional morning skate at Flyers Traning Center in Voorhees, New Jersey.

The Chevrolet logo will be featured on both the home and away helmets beginning with tonight’s contests against Carolina. Fans attending the game tonight can also check out a vehicle display for the car company near the 11th Street Entrance inside the Wells Fargo Center.  As an additional bonus for Chevy owners, the Flyers announced an added perk for tonight’s game at the bottom of their press release. “Any fan driving a Chevrolet vehicle to tonight’s game and who parks in the Wells Fargo Center Complex lost will receive free parking.”

Tortorella Advocates for Sanheim, Konecny for Team Canada

Travis Sanheim was the main topic of conversation in today’s media session with Tortorella. The head coach noted it “is pretty cool to watch” the excellent play of the top defenseman this season. The former first-round pick has 5 goals and 7 assists in 2024. Sanheim is playing 25:35 per game which ranks 3rd most in the NHL on a nightly basis behind Chicago’s Seth Jones at 25:42

Based on his recent play, it has been speculated that Travis Sanheim could be a candidate for Team Canada at the Four Nations Face-off in February. Tortorella looks forward to his top players getting hockey experience in a major tournament setting. “That’s your country,” Tortorella said. “We’ve got really good athletes and they care. That’s a really important thing for athletes. Quite honestly, I hope he (Sanheim) gets an opportunity. They got to be looking at the winger, too – TK (Konecny). The more people that have the opportunity to play for your country, it does nothing but great things for them.”

When asked about the added ice time for selected Flyers players, Tortorella responded, “Oh…I don’t give a (bleep) about that.” Travis Sanheim and Travis Konencny need to wait a few more weeks for an invitation from Team Canada. The full rosters for the Four Nation Face-Off are expected to be released on Dec. 3.
