The 1-7 Sixers are desperate for a win. Last week, the Sixers limped through a 0-3 road trip out West, lost Tyrese Maxey to a hamstring injury, and extended Embiid’s absence by three games. Philadelphia needs a break and will look toward remaining All-Star Paul George to lead the way in his home debut. The team will also continue to give high-level minutes to rookie Jared McCain as he continues to impress and looks to shore up his own playmaking capabilities after a promising game against the Los Angeles Lakers.

For their part, the 4-5 Hornets have had a decent start to the season, considering the extent of their injuries. With star LaMelo Ball finally healthy and averaging 28.4 points a game, the Sixers will need to account for his impact by shoring up their defensive efforts. That includes fighting for rebounds and loose balls, cutting off potential screens, and looking for opportunities to force turnovers. The Sixers will rely on physically dominant players like Caleb Martin, Kyle Lowry, and Guerschon Yabusele to do just that.
