PHILADELPHIA, PA — Ahead of the Philadelphia 76ers‘ Wednesday night matchup against the Detroit Pistons, Sixers head coach Nick Nurse addressed the media as always. Without a beat, Nurse was questioned on the situation surrounding Joel Embiid—and, to a lesser degree, Paul George. Specifically, Nurse was asked whether or not he perceived the situation as fair to the fanbase.

A fair question, albeit one that could have been phrased in a manner to procure a thoughtful answer, not a soundbite.

In response, Nurse acknowledged the gravity of the question and focused on the next steps for his stars in his answer.

“Listen, our guys are working out; they are making progress,” Nurse said. “They’re going to have workouts tomorrow, Friday. We hope to have a better indication of where they are by then. [We will] update you then.”

A back and forth ensued; one side seeking truth—and a blurb, the other doing everything within his power to avoid subjecting the team to further fines.

Though asked further about back-to-backs and the league’s findings that led to the $100,000—which Nurse stated he was unaware of, the Sixers head coach opted to “punt” on further questioning, as he had done post-practice the day before.

Hopefully, by Friday, meaningful answers will be provided, though that certainly feels far from a safe assumption. Shams Charania‘s report via ESPN that Embiid has begun participating in five-on-five scrimmages is certainly an encouraging sign, but until anything concrete is provided by the Sixers,
