The Philadelphia Flyers prepare to take on the Montreal Canadiens. Yesterday, both teams were in action as the Canadians defeated the St. Louis Blues by 5-2 on home ice. The Flyers took down the Wild 7-5 with a hat trick from captain Sean Couturier, who also surpassed the 500 points for his career.

Here’s the latest in Flyers news before puck drop:

Flyers’ Jett Luchanko joins junior team

The team sent down center Jett Luchanko back to his junior team, the Guelph Storm. Luchanko made appearances in four games wearing the orange and black but now gets to gain vital minutes on ice in the OHL. The 13th overall draft pick impressed general manager Danny Briere and head coach John Tortorella, but he just needs to gain more experience. Luchanko was the youngest player to wear the orange and black in Flyers franchise history.

Who will replace him?

Philly hope to carry the momentum from yesterday’s game in their Sunday night battle against the Canadiens. The Flyers relied on Erik Johnson to take Luchanko’s spot yesterday, but Cam York was out.

Philadelphia also recalled defenseman Emil Andrae back from the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. Andrae will be taking Egor Zamula’s place in the lineup tonight.

In net, Aleksei Kolosov will be making his NHL debut. With an ever-changing lineup for Philadelphia this early in the season, the young players from Lehigh are getting their shot. Undoubtedly, the Flyers have a goaltending problem, needing a solid backup for Sam Ersson. Kolosov has played a good amount so far with the Phantoms, and despite some tough losses, this will be a good test for the young goaltender.

Eye on Montreal

Nick Suzuki currently leads the Canadiens in points with nine, two goals, and seven assists. Cole Caufield is trailing behind Suzuki with eight points, seven goals, and one assist. In yesterday’s win over the Blues, Caulfield lit the lamp for Montreal, which got him back in the points column.
