Eagles vs Bengals: NFL Week 8 Betting preview

Although the Eagles were slow out of the gates, their dominant win over the Giants should inspire some confidence. Saquon Barkley ripped through the defense of his former team en-route to what could’ve easily been a career day, while Philly’s pass-rush caught fire and made life miserable for Daniel Jones.

With Cincy only ranking 21st against the pass, there’s a real chance that Saquon Barkley causes chaos yet again. He already has 658 yards this season and 5 touchdowns to his name, while the Bengals gave up over 100 yards to Chuba Hubbard last time out. That’s a matchup that Nick Sirianni will be keen to exploit.

For the Bengals, this has not been a season that many expected. They were able to grind out a narrow win over the Browns but have suffered a plethora of injury setbacks on both sides of the ball. Things did look better defensively against the Browns, and they’ve kind of mirrored Philadelphia’s season in beating lesser teams but struggling to play consistently productive football.

Ja’Marr Chase still leads the NFL in receiving yards and has to be respected. If the Bengals are still without OT Orlando Brown, Vic Fangio will need to send pressure early and often in order to give his team a chance against an offense that might just be finding its footing.

The Eagles haven’t beaten the Bengals since 2000 and will be hoping to buck that trend on the back of another strong day from their star running back.

Why the Eagles can win

The Eagles are healthier and a more well-rounded team. They also match up very well against Cincy’s leaky run defense, which should allow them to dictate tempo throughout the game.

Why the Bengals can win

Philly’s defense either plays lights-out or worryingly bad. If Cincy can build some momentum and take advantage of Philadelphia’s lack of early scoring, then it might force them to focus on an air-based attack rather than running the rock. This would play into Cincy’s hands if the offensive struggles persist, and it’s not like the Bengals are lacking in stars offensively to push the pace and force Philly to play aggressively.

Philadelphia have struggled to generate turnovers this season and so long as Joe Burrow can protect the rock and be advantageous when taking shots downfield, they have a chance of extending that undefeated streak against the Birds.

Eagles vs Bengals: NFL Week 8 Betting pick

I like the Eagles here. You get a small cushion to work with, arguably the best running back in the league, and an offense that might finally be finding an identity when running the ball consistently. This has the potential to be a really bad matchup for Cincy, and I like the points here, especially if this does move closer to that all-important 3-point mark.
