The Philadelphia Flyers wrapped up their final road game of this early trip with a 6-4 loss to the Seattle Kraken. Last night’s loss resulted from moments of slopiness, but that wasn’t the case for the entire game.

Opening period tussle

In the first frame, Philadelphia started the scoring, as Scott Laughton had a wrap-around goal behind Philipp Grubauer. This was the aggressive scoring that John Tortorella wanted his team to incorporate into their game.

The Flyers’ lead was neutralized by the newest member of the Seattle Kraken, who was on the Stanley Cup-winning Florida Panthers. The view was blocked as Seattle’s Jaden Schwartz did a good job positioning himself.

With a little over a minute left of play in the first frame, Hathaway fed Laughton the puck and regained the Flyers’ lead. Two goals for Scott Laughton seemed to fire up the Flyers, who appeared to be the better team early on. Tortorella commented on the first period of the play, saying, “I thought the first period was probably one of our better periods of the year.”

Tensions rise between Kraken and Flyers

The second frame told a different story. Jared McCann scored on the power play for Seattle, and Fedotov’s positioning and spatial awareness were highlighted as real areas for growth.

Eeli Tolvanen scored when the puck could have been gloved down, but Tolvanen was able to rebound the puck in the net, which gave the Kraken their first lead of the game, 3-2. Seattle displayed great passing as Jared McCann fed Jordan Eberle the puck to double the lead over Philadelphia 4-2. Finally, a one-timer from One-timer Shane Wright to end the period with Seattle with a 5-2 lead. Travis Konecny also took a big hit towards the end of the game and exited.

Konecny returned to the game later and began fighting immediately, so any rumors of him being checked for a concussion were put to rest.

One last shot

Heading into the final frame, the Flyers were on the verge of making a comeback. Sam Ersson replaced Fedotov at the start of the third period. Tortorella had no comments on Fedotov’s performance.

Cam York had a one-timer cutting down the deficit, giving Philadelphia more life, now trailing 5-3. Jamie Drysdale recorded his first goal of the season on the power play, reducing Seattle’s lead to just one. Kraken winger, Oliver Bjorkstrand, solidified another goal, making the final score 6-4.

The Flyers return home and get ready for their home opener on Saturday, hosting the only team they beat so far this season, the Vancouver Canucks.
