The Philadelphia Flyers (1-1-0) wrap up their four-game road trip out west tonight with a matchup against the Seattle Kraken (2-2-0). On Tuesday night, the Flyers were defeated in overtime by the Edmonton Oilers, 4-3. The Flyers will play their 2024-25 home opener on Saturday against the Vancouver Canucks.

Tonight’s game is the first of two between the Flyers and Kraken this season. They will next meet in Philadelphia on March 8. During the 2023-24 season, the Flyers faced the Kraken twice and finished with a 1-0-1 record.

Philadelphia Flyers

Philly salvaged one point in Tuesday’s overtime loss to the Oilers. The Orange and Black saw themselves up 2-0 and 3-2 during the game before Leon Draisaitl scored the overtime winner.

Matvei Michkov scored his first two NHL goals against the Oilers with both on the powerplay. Michkov became the first Flyers player to score multiple powerplay goals in a game since Kevin Hayes on Jan. 22, 2023, against the Winnipeg Jets.

Morgan Frost has thrived when slotted alongside Michkov. Frost currently has three assists this season, all being on the powerplay. He picked up his first on Saturday against the Flames, courtesy of a Travis Konecny goal that Michkov also assisted on, and he assisted Michkov on both of his powerplay goals against the Oilers. It’s only been three games, but Frost and the explosive rookie have found a connection that many expected them to have before the season started.

Projected lineup for the Philadelphia Flyers, per Charlie O’Connor:

Tippett-Frost-Michkov
Farabee-Luchanko-Konecny
Foerster-Couturier-Brink
Laughton-Poehling-Hathaway

York-Sanheim
Zamula-Ristolainen
Johnson-Drysdale

Fedotov

Seattle Kraken

Stanley Cup-winning head coach Dan Bylsma is now the bench boss in Seattle. Former Flyers and Kraken head coach Dave Hakstol was fired by Seattle on April 29 after the team failed to make the playoffs. Bylsma coached the Pittsburgh Penguins to a Stanley Cup in 2008-09 and was recently the head coach for Seattle’s AHL team, the Coachella Valley Firebirds, from 2022-24.

The Kraken are coming into tonight’s game following a 7-3 win over the Nashville Predators on Tuesday. They scored four unanswered goals in the third period to leave Nashville with two points.

Throughout their four games, freshly named captain Jordan Eberle and forward Jared McCann are both tied on points with four. Both players are featured on the first line together and also on the first powerplay unit. In 33 games played against the Flyers in his career, Eberle has 26 points (9G, 17A) and is a +4. McCann has 15 points and is a +2 in 28 games against the Flyers.

Projected lineup for the Seattle Kraken:

McCann-Wright-Eberle
Tolvanen-Beniers-Burakovsky
Schwartz-Stephenson-Bjorkstrand
Kartye-Gourde-Tanev

Dunn-Larsson
