The Philadelphia 76ers are one week away from their regular season opener against the Milwaukee Bucks. Heading into the new season, the Sixers are surrounded by uncertainty regarding the availability of two of the team’s top stars.
On Sunday, it was announced that Joel Embiid would miss the rest of the preseason as a part of b “individual treatment plan.” On Monday, it was reported that Embiid believes he may never again play both games of a back-to-back. Later that evening, Paul George hyperextended his knee against the Atlanta Hawks, and finally, George was diagnosed with a bone bruise on Tuesday.
Questions have continuously been raised about what all of this means in relation to their availability for the team’s season opener. Ahead of the Sixers preseason matchup against the Brooklyn Nets, head coach Nick Nurse provided an update on when the team would know the availability of Embiid and George for Wednesday’s season opener.
“I would say at the beginning of next week, probably Monday, Tuesday at the latest. Obviously, it’s about as far as you can go.”
Falling perfectly in line with the initial one-week reevaluation period, Nurse told media members on Tuesday that it seems unlikely that anything will be definitively known, or at least told, regarding when the season will truly begin for either of the Sixers’ stars.
