Eagles vs Giants: NFL Week 7 Betting preview
It’s been a strange season for the Philadelphia Eagles. They sit at 3-2, but very few are positive about the campaign ahead. You could argue that without Saquon Barkley’s generational abilities and some brilliant individual performances from guys like Quinyon Mitchell and Zack Baun, this team would be in ruin. You could also counter with the fact that had the confusing play-calls early on not been so damaging, the Eagles could be undefeated.
It’s a confusing time for Philadelphia fans, but at the very least, they beat the Browns. They now have to carry that momentum and certainly build on it to keep the Giants quiet, who field a quietly dominant defense and a flurry of offensive playmakers.
New York might be 2-4 and be handcuffed to Daniel Jones, but it hasn’t stopped the defense from ranking 10th in total yards allowed and 1st in sack-percentage. The alarm bells will be ringing for Philadelphia given that franchise LT Jordan Mailata will miss this game, leaving Fred Johnson to battle against a flurry of explosive EDGE rushers and linebackers. Lane Johnson will be tasked with silencing Azeez Ojulari, and given Philly’s struggles on offense this season, there’s no doubt that New York will be sniffing the upset.
The Eagles have won 5 of the last 6 games against the Giants, but this is not that same Philly team. Sure, the starts might all be there, but there doesn’t seem to be a rhyme or reason to much of anything being called. If there is ever a spot to get right, it’s against a Giants team where a loss could have heavy divisional implications
Why the Eagles can win
On paper, this team is simply better at nearly ever position. The defense looked much stronger (although it was against the Browns) last week, and we know just how much firepower the Birds have offensively.
In what is Saquon Barkley’s return to New York, we can expect a heavy dose of the dazzling running back and not many have been able to contain him all season. If Jalen Hurts can play like he did last week, keeping things simple and avoiding pesky turnovers, then there is no reason why this won’t be an easy win for a team who should be sleepwalking past their divisional rival.
Why the Giants can win
The Eagles are without Jordan Mailata and have been struggling to make any win look convincing. There will be years of pent up frustration for a New York team that has rarely been able to get one over on their rivals and has watched as they snatched DeVonta Smith from their laps in the NFL Draft a few years ago, and then pulled Saquon Barkley from their clutches this past offseason.
In front of their home fans, the Giants will be looking to prove a point. The NFC East is wide-open and they know it. Should Philadelphia stumble out of the gates in the first quarter once more, this is a team that will be quick to respond and turn the tides of the game.
Eagles vs Giants: NFL Week 7 Betting pick
I like the Eagles here. This is a small number to lay as a road favorite in a divisional game, but if the Eagles had played anywhere near their potential, this line would be closer to -7. It’s better to be early than to be late.
