In 2024, the Philadelphia Phillies secured the Nation League East Division title for the 12th time in franchise history, the first since 2011. That success was quickly overshadowed by a deflating loss to the New York Mets in the NLDS.
Tuesday brought the first opportunity the media had to speak with the team’s president of baseball operations, Dave Dombrowski. Dombrowski discussed the team’s disappointing end to the season, where the team goes from here, and an update on the coaching of the Major League ball club.
It didn’t take long for Dombrowski to be asked about manager Rob Thomson‘s future, saying, “We have extended Rob Thompson for 2026, and all the major league coaching staff will be back.”
It’s not uncommon for a manager to have his position questioned despite regular-season success, but Dombrowski and the organization are clearly confident in his ability to manage the team.
Over nearly three seasons as the Phillies manager, Thomson has amassed a record of 250-185 for a winning percentage of .575, only behind the Dodgers’ Dave Roberts, the Braves’ Brian Snitker, and the Orioles’ Brandon Hyde.
Dombrowski also confirmed the retention of the organization’s other Major League coaches, including hitting coach Kevin Long and pitching coach Caleb Cotham.
