The Philadelphia Eagles are 3-2 after beating the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, but they’re going to have to survive the next few games without franchise left tackle Jordan Mailata.
The Australian offensive lineman went down with a hamstring injury against the Browns and would ultimately leave the Stadium on crutches.
Jordan Mailata to miss a couple of games with hamstring injury
Nick Sirianni clarified on Monday that while they don’t know the exact details of the injury, they’re expecting Mailata to miss the next couple of weeks, which would mean games against the Giants and Bengals.
Losing any starter hurts, as we’ve seen with minor injuries to DeVonta Smith and A.J Brown, but Mailata has been a monster all season. According to PFF, he’s graded out at 88.4 this season with a score over 90 in pass-protection, giving up just 1 sack in 325 snaps.
The Eagles also haven’t really had to be without their dominant tackle, who has started 62 out of his last 67 games, missing just one contest since 2021.
Fred Johnson set to replace Jordan Mailata
In his place, we’re likely to see swing tackle Fred Johnson, who played at RT in relief of Lane Johnson earlier this year. The 6’7, 326 lbs, tackle has 9 NFL starts under his belt since entering the league in 2019, making 6 of those starts for the Bengals in 2020.
In limited action for the Eagles, Johnson has averaged a PFF grade of 50.5, but 68.5 in run-blocking. Losing Mailata is going to be a lot for this offense to overcome, but they do have a veteran in Fred Johnson who has at least proved himself to be servicable on the right side not just in Philly, but in Cincinnati too.
The Eagles will face the Giants on the road this weekend.
