Despite a week of promising developments, Philadelphia Eagles RT Lane Johnson will miss today’s game against the Bucs after failing to clear concussion protocol.
This is obviously worrying news. Lane returned to practice earlier in the week after picking up the concussion in the win over the Saints, but has not been cleared to play just yet.
Eagles RT Lane Johnson is out for Sunday: From one Johnson to another
Fred Johnson will take his place after putting in a solid effort in relief of the veteran last time out. PFF graded his efforts at 64.9, which is far from poor, although playing for an entire game is a different challenge. The Bucs are only averaging 0.7 sacks per game through the opening 3 weeks which should at least give Johnson a favorable matchup in his first official NFL start.
The Eagles will also be without DeVonta Smith, who also remains in concussion protocol. A shorthanded offense will need to be at its best to overcome these setbacks, so expect big days from players like Saquon Barkley and A.J Brown.
Kickoff is set for 1pm at Raymond James Stadium.
