Just when you think the Philadelphia 76ers‘ offseason is over, they keep you guessing. Just five short days ahead of media day and six ahead of the team’s training camp in the Bahamas, the Sixers made yet another addition after signing former Golden State Warriors guard Lester Quinones to a two-way roster spot, according to NBA Insider Shams Charania.

Quinones was long rumored to be a player of interest for Philadelphia, as Michael Scotto of HoopsHype first reported the connection in early July. The former Memphis Tiger has shown flashes of interesting potential over his two seasons in the league that Philadelphia now hopes to unleash.

As a shooter, Quinones has been a mixed bag, mostly based on where he’s shooting. According to a shot chart provided by Statmuse, Quinones has been fairly effective in shooting from deep in both corners, at the top of the three-point line, and, generally speaking, on the right side of the basket.

He has however struggled as a shooter between the top and corner while going left. Unfortunately, this is also where the majority of his shots from deep have come from. Whether that’s a matter of correlation or causation remains to be seen.

Quinones provides enough intriguing skills and three-point potential to make him an interesting addition, but the roster change for Philadelphia does not end there. The 76ers signed Quinones to a two-way contract. Under the current CBA, teams are allowed three two-way contracts. Quinones is Philadelphia’s fourth.

Jeff Dowtin Jr. and rookies Justin Edwards and David Jones have each been signed to two-way deals, meaning one of those players will either have their deal converted or they could potentially be cut.

The 76ers currently have 14 of 15 standard roster spots filled. The idea of converting Jeff Dowtin Jr.’s two-way deal into a low or non-guaranteed standard deal remains a possibility, but that is just one of several possibilities.

There should be a clear idea of this by the end of the 76ers’ media day, set to take place this Monday, Sept. 30.
