Philadelphia Union midfielder Daniel Gazdag made club history again during Wednesday’s 5-1 win over NYCFC.
With his first-half goal in the 32nd minute, Gazdag’s 15th goal of the season saw him become the first player in Union club history to record multiple MLS regular seasons with at least 15 goals. He also ranks fifth in MLS in goals scored this season. He is two goals behind legendary striker Luis Suárez to be tied for fourth.
Daniel Gazdag becomes a Philadelphia Union legend
On April 30, Gazdag became the team’s all-time leading scorer in a loss to the Seattle Sounders, passing Sébastien Le Toux. Since making his debut in 2021, Gazdag has amassed 68 goals in 150 matches while wearing the Union badge in all competitions.
Gazdag’s goal totals through all competitions:
2021: 28 matches, 5 goals
2022: 38 matches, 24 goals
2023: 48 matches, 22 goals
2024 (so far): 36 matches, 17 goals
Also, on Tuesday, MLS revealed the top 25-selling jerseys and Gazdag ranked #23 on the list. In only four seasons with the Boys in Blue, Gazdag has become a club legend and one of, if not, the best player in Union history. Gazdag has raised the level of play and expectations for the club since 2021. Gazdag has been a clinical player who knows how to rise to the occasion.
The squad has not performed to expectations in 2024, and it has been noted by Jim Curtin on multiple occasions. Three huge points were picked up on Wednesday over NYCFC to move the Union into the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
Another important match awaits the Union as they’ll take on D.C. United this Sunday at 6:15 at Subaru Park. Both Philadelphia and D.C. United are even with 33 points. This match will be massive in deciding the playoff race as Decision Day is exactly one month away.
As big matches await the Union in these final weeks, expect Gazdag to rise to the occasion.
