Week 2 did not go the way that Eagles fans had hoped. Blowing a lead to the Falcons in the dying embers of the game was tough to stomach, and the road ahead hardly offers any time for the players to lick their wounds. A date with the high-flying New Orleans Saints awaits, and for the first time this season, the Eagles open as underdogs.

Eagles open up as road underdogs against the Saints

Philly fans will be hoping that Monday’s loss was a fluke, because if it isn’t, the Saints are poised to punish even the smallest drop of complacency. The Eagles have allowed 315 yards through 2 games this season, while Alvin Kamara has put up 198 and 4 touchdowns in that same spam. That’s bad news in itself, but it only gets worse.

The Cowboys were completely nullified in Sunday’s thrashing, with New Orleans proving that their big win over Carolina was more than just an expectation because of Bryce Young’s struggles. Derek Carr has now passed for 443 Yards and has a 5-1 TD-INT ratio this season.

There were reasons for optimism from a Philly perspective. Saquon Barkley looked sensational once again, DeVonta Smith performed brilliantly in the absence of A.J Brown, and Jalen Hurts looked much better than he did in the opening week win over Green Bay. However, with a lack of real pass-rushing pressure, this could well be a game that turns into a shootout pretty quickly.

The Eagles don’t have long to figure this out. You could argue that they had the game one had Saquon Barkley not dropped that crucial 3rd down pass, but it should’ve been won long before then, and that was also the case against Green Bay. Questionable play-calls and needless early aggression have kept things tight when they shouldn’t have been, and the coaching staff will have to be much more self-aware if they are to find a way to stop the most explosive offense in football after 2 weeks.
