Philadelphia Flyers rookies Matvei Michkov and Ivan Fedotov were invited to attend the 2024 NHLPA Rookie Showcase earlier this week at MedStar Capital Iceplex in Arlington, Virginia. In the 14th edition of the showcase, the Flyers representatives are a pair of rookies who both had a big “TBD” date next to their arrival. As the leaves started to turn colors and drop from the trees, winger Matvei Michkov and goaltender Ivan Fedotov got dressed for pictures and practice in their new team colors.
Upper Deck, the official trading card partner for the NHLPA, provides an opportunity every season for the brightest prospects in hockey to come together for the event and capture photographs of the athletes in the NHL team uniforms. These images will be the first ones used for trading cards, promotional materials, and more for young hockey players.
A familiar face reunites with Michkov in D.C.
While they are no longer on the same side in the National Hockey League, several of the electric young Russian hockey stars of the world greeted the newest NHL import (Michkov) on Wednesday. Capitals forward, Ivan Miroshnichenko, played has battled with Matvei Michkov on several junior teams on the road to the NHL. Miroshnichenko helped the AHL’s Hershey Bears to a Calder Cup in his rookie season in North America.
“I’m really excited to be in an NHL game against him, and I’m really happy to see him here,” Miroshnichenko said through his translator for the day, Minnesota Wild prospect Nikita Chibrikov. Michkov responded through the same NHL-playing interpreter to the media, “Now I have a chance and Miro to play against each other in the NHL. I think I will win.”
Stars Arrive in Washington
First overall pick Macklin Celebrini was photographed in his San Jose Sharks Gear, and even New York Rangers’ forward Matt Rempe made an appearance. No reports indicate Rempe tried to fight anyone during the event despite some offseason tough guy training with former NHL fighter Georges Laraque.
Yes, Flyers fans. Rookie forward Cutter Gauthier was in attendance in his Anaheim Ducks fit for the season. Funnily enough, that new uniform features a whole lot of ORANGE.
