The Eagles are getting set to take on the Green Bay Packers in São Paulo, Brazil on Friday night. Philadelphia didn’t have the story book ending that they wanted last season after collapsing following a 10-1 start.
Meanwhile, the Packers finished strong as Jordan Love and the offense found their footing late in the season to make a run in the playoffs. Both teams fell short of the ultimate goal which has led them to now. They’ll both battle in hopes of starting the season off hot with the idea of earning the top crown in the NFC.

Here’s the latest update for the inactive Eagles’ players in tonight’s game:
1st Quarter recap
The Eagles elected to kick off and receive in the second half. After a flag for illegal formation on the kick off, the defense contained the run for the most part against the Packers. It looks like the run defense had a way to clog every lane available to Josh Jacobs. However, Jordan Love picked up where he left off last season as he was able to put the ball in right place to move the sticks.
On what could’ve been a huge touchdown play to Jayden Reed, the Packers were flagged for having too many players on the field which is usually called against the defense. Jordan Love with a bit of a miscue on this drive which led to the punting on their first three-and-out of the season.
Unfortunately, the Eagles couldn’t capitalize as their first drive started off as terribly as it could. Saquon Barkley slipped on his very snap as an Eagles which led to a loss of five yards. Following that, on third down, Jalen Hurts threw his first interception of the season which led to a decent return from Xavier McKinney.
Following the turnover by the Eagles’ offense, the defense was able to hold the Packers offense to only a field goal despite the starting field position of the Packers offense. It’s safe to say that Vic Fangio’s veteran leadership and direction of the defense will be in good hands this season.
As sharp as the defense has looked cannot be said for the offense. After throwing an interception, the Eagles’ offense turns the ball over once again as Cam Jurgens snaps the ball before Jalen Hurts was prepared to receive it. The sloppiness of the offense early on could spell for a long game for the defense. The last thing the Eagles want is for their defense to play more snaps then needed due to sloppy play.
Regardless of the mishaps of the offense, the Eagles defense was able to hold off the Packers once again. Green Bay had to settle for another field goal after several flags which led to the Packers’ offense stalling out. Packers lead the Eagles 6-0 with the three minutes left in the first quarter.
2nd Quarter recap
SAQUON BARKLEY! The Eagles offense finally slowed things down and controlled the temperature of the game. A couple of short passes along with a 12-yard rush by Saquon Barkley led to a big 18-yard touchdown from Jalen Hurts to Saquon Barkley. The Eagles’ newest weapon gets the Birds on the board with his first receiving touchdown of the season. Philadelphia leads 7-6 at this point in the second quarter.
The Packers saw what the Eagles did and raised them a better drive. They relied heavily on Emmanuel Wilson, who had some big carries against this Eagles’ defense which led to a 33-yard end-around touchdown run by Jayden Reed. Packers now lead the Eagles 12-7 after a failed 2-point attempt by the Josh Jacobs.
Philadelphia answered the Packers with a solid drive filled with creative plays AND motion on offense. Devonta Smith had a big catch to bring the Eagles closer to the red zone after a big catch on third down by A.J. Brown which led to a first down. The Birds finished the drive with another touchdown by their star running back, this time it was an 11-yard touchdown run by Saquon Barkley to put the Eagles up 14-12 with 5:34 to go in the first half.
Whoever thought this game would be a walk in the park for either team was dead wrong. The Packers didn’t hesitate as they unleashed the air raid on 3rd down with a 70-yard touchdown pass from Jordan Love to Jayden Reed. Packers are now up 19-14 with 5:11 to go in the first half.
Philadelphia responded by pacing themselves and making the most of their time of possession. A big pass to DeVonta Smith on 4th down kept the Eagles drive alive. Hurts and the offense relied a bit more on Kenny Gainwell during this drive as he brought them into the red zone. A sack on Jalen Hurts on first down pushed the team backwards which was followed by a false start on Dallas Goedert. On 2nd and 21, Jalen Hurts made a quick pass to Goedert to put Philly in field goal range on 4th and 16. Jake Elliott would a hit a chip shot to bring the Eagles within two. At the half, the Packets lead the Eagles 19-17.
3rd Quarter Recap
The Eagles waster zero time to find their footing int the second half. After a short run by Saquon Barkley, Jalen Hurts threw a 67-yard touchdown pass to A.J. Brown to put the Birds up 24-19. Brown was covered by Jaire Alexander who was provoking Brown earlier in the 2nd quarter of this game.
Green Bay followed Philly’s big score with a two big fouls called against the Eagles defense. Love then hit Kraft with a short pass for 29 yards which brought the Packers into the red zone. On 3rd and 9, the Eagles defense once again made a foolish move as Maddox held onto Wicks in the end zone and was called for pass interference. The lack of discipline led to a Packers touchdown by Christian Watson on a quick slant against Avonte Maddox.
On the next drive for Philadelphia, the Birds went three and out as the Packers defense continued to be as stingy as possible. Saquon was only able to gain 2-yards on a drive that was ended by a sack on Jalen Hurts when the offense froze up was they were waiting for a neutral zone infraction call against the Packers that the officials chose not to call. Philly would then punt for the first time in this game.
Packers were forced to punt on the next drive after Jordan Love missed Jayden Reed followed by a dropped catch by Romeo Doubs. Green Bay would go then go three and out after Emmanuel Wilson was stopped by Nakobe Dean and an illegal formation call against the Packers’ offense.
It seems like at this point in the third quarter, both teams are just trading three-and-outs. Philly would go three and out once against despite a solid 8-yard run by Saquon Barkley to bring them within two yards of a first down. Hurts would fail on a read option as he fought to get back to the line of scrimmage. Shortly after that he failed to find a wide open receive as he was pressured to throw the ball in the dirt.
After being abused by Jordan Love for most of the night, the Eagles secondary finally forced him into throwing an interception. Reed Blankenship came up big to help put the Eagles offense in a solid position to score on their next drive. This now became the Saquon Barkley drive as he carried the Packers defense down the field to score his third touchdown of the game.
4th Quarter Recap
In what looked to be a promising drive for the Packers, Zach Baun shined for the Eagles. Philly couldn’t find an answer for Josh Jacobs as he dashed through Philly’s defense with ease until Baun showed out and helped shutdown the Packers drive. They were forced to try a 43-yard field goal on 4th down that was missed by Narveson.
Hurts had a bit of a setback on a promising drive. After a big run by Saquon Barkley, the Eagles relied heavily on the passing attack in which Green Bay expected. The Packers stayed discplined in making sure Jalen felt the pressure while baiting him to throw the long ball. Hurts threw a pass to A.J. Brown that was intercepted by Jaire Alexander. This would be Jalen’s second interception of the game and of the start of the season.
In a bit of a nail biter of a drive, the Packers once again marched down the field but the much improved red zone defense was able to push Love to the brink and hold him off on 3rd and 5. After great runs by Josh Jacobs and a big play by Jayden Reed, Philadelphia’s defense held the Packers offense to a field goal which brought them within two points of the Eagles. Philly leads Green Bay 31-29 with 7:55 left in the game.
In what was missing greatly last year the Eagles took the ball over with 7:55 left in the game. They were able to fight for every yard on this drive. Hurts rushed multiple times for a first down and the Eagles were able to rely on Saquon Barkley’s strength for multiple yard gains. Philadelphia had a chance to show their killer instinct and did so with multiple passes to DeVonta Smith. Philadelphia chose to go with the field goal to make it 34-29.
The Packers then received the ball with 22 seconds in the left. It was 22 seconds that it took to cause agony and concern to Packers fans, and fans of the NFL in general, as Jordan Love went down in pain with 6 seconds left in the game. Following his departure, Malik Willis was thrown into the game in hopes of keeping the Packers’ hopes alive. Eagles linebacker Zach Baun made sure to end those hopes with a game sealing sack to lift the Eagles to 1-0 for the 2024 season.
