The Philadelphia Eagles have released their second injury report ahead of their clash with the Green Bay Packers this Friday, revealing the status of LB Devin White. The former Bucs LB will miss the season opener due to an ankle injury.
Eagles LB Devin White to miss season opener
This is a tough pill to swallow for Philadelphia. White was brought in this offseason as a bandaid for a previously deprived linebacker position. While his 2023 season was a step back from his previous stunning heights, his presence in Fangio’s defense was set to be a big one. White recorded 566 tackles, 64 QB hits, and 23 sacks during his time with Tampa Bay and he was entrenched as the starting linebacker in Philly early.
Green Bay only mustered 1,905 rushing yards last year, but welcomed Josh Jacobs into the backfield this past offseason. Stopping a human bowling-ball was always going to be a challenge, especially at a neutral site, but missing Devin White could make life even tougher on Friday.
The good news is that depth behind White is relatively promising. His absence is bound to open the doors up for Nakobe Dean to prove his salt after an injury-plagued start to his NFL career, while we could even see Jeremiah Trotter Jr. take some defensive snaps in his first-ever NFL game. The two will work alongside Zack Baun against Green Bay.
White’s injury doesn’t appear to be long-term and he had a strong Summer. A short-term setback is the best-case scenario here, but missing the lone veteran presence at the position could be damaging in the opening game of the season.
The Eagles and Packers will lock horns on Friday night in São Paulo.
