The Philadelphia 76ers have officially signed and subsequently waived guard Jared Brownridge, a team official told Philly Sports Network. According to the Sixers, Brownridge is expected to join the Delaware Blue Coats for the upcoming season.
Brownridge was reported to soon sign an exhibit-10 deal with Philadelphia on Sept. 3, which would allow him to receive a bonus upon his subsequent waving as long as he remains with the team’s G League affiliate, the Delaware Blue Coats for at least 60 days.
For the third time in four days, the Philadelphia 76ers have made a roster addition ahead of the upcoming training camp in the Bahamas. After previously signing Max Fielder and Judah Mintz over this past holiday weekend, the team will now sign guard Jared Brownridge, who will also receive an exhibit-10 contract, according to Michael Scotto of Hoopshype.
Brownridge has a long history with the 76ers franchise having spent the past seven seasons with the team’s G League affiliate, the Delaware Blue Coats, joining the organization back in 2018. After four seasons at Santa Clara, Brownridge went undrafted in 2017 before signing for a season in Italy with Pallacanestro Mantovana, with whom he played 18 games.
Since then, Brownridge has appeared in 200 games for the Blue Coats, providing a crucial veteran presence during the team’s 2022-23 G League championship run.
This is not the first exhibit-10 contract the 76ers have signed Brownridge to, doing so in 2019, 2021, and 2023, waiving him each time.
As for what exactly an exhibit-10 contract is and why the 76ers continue to sign Brownridge to them:
An Exhibit 10 contract is a one-year, non-guaranteed deal worth the league’s minimum salary that can include a bonus worth up to $75,000 that will be rewarded if the player—if they are waived—remains with the team’s G League affiliate for at least 60 days.
In that definition lies part of the answer as to why Brownridge continues to be signed to them. While he has not provided much tangible, direct value to the 76ers on the court—as he has never played in an NBA game, the organization clearly values him. His continued presence with the Blue Coats continues to aid in the development of Philadelphia’s young talent, playing alongside players like Shake Milton, Isaiah Joe, Paul Reed, and Ricky Council IV.
Once again, Brownridge appears set to join the Blue Coats and will take the court alongside the 76ers current rookies Jared McCain, Adem Bona, and Justin Edwards down in Delaware this season.
