The Philadelphia 76ers have made another addition as they prepare to head to training camp in five weeks, signing forward Max Fiedler.
Jon Chepkevich of Draft Express was the first to break the news two months ago ahead of the Sixers’ summer league run. Today, that deal has been formally announced.
The two questions that likely come to mind are: Who is Max Fiedler? And what is an Exhibit 10 contract?
Those who watched the Summer Sixers will remember Fiedler from his brief stint with the team that saw him average 2.0 points and 2.5 rebounds across two games. While it’s not much of a sample size, Fiedler seems to have made an impression, earning the right to head to training camp with the team.
Before his Sixers experience, Fiedler spent five collegiate seasons at Rice, averaging 9.3 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 3.9 assists. He finished his career as the university’s all-time leader in rebounds, assists, field goal percentage, games played, and games started while ranking second all-time in total blocks.
Regarding what an Exhibit 10 contract is and how it differs from a standard NBA contract, it’s often used to increase roster size for training camp and entice players to remain with a team’s G League affiliate.
To put it in more detail, an Exhibit 10 contract is a one-year, non-guaranteed deal worth the league’s minimum salary. In addition to the minimum salary, the deal, teams can include a bonus worth up to $75,000 that will be rewarded if the player—if they are waived—remains with the team’s G League affiliate for at least 60 days.
Fiedler will now have a chance to experience an NBA training camp and likely join the Sixers’ affiliate, the Delaware Blue Coats, ahead of the upcoming season.
