The Eagles are on the cusp of heading into a big season with training camp now coming to an end. After a long and exciting offseason, Philadelphia has decided to set off another batch of fireworks as they have made a rare in-division trade with the Washington Commanders.
Eagles make a shock trade for Jahan Dotson
Philadelphia has agreed to trade a 3rd round pick along with two 7th-round picks to the commanders in exchange for former first-round pick Jahan Dotson and a fifth-round pick. In two seasons with the Commanders, Dotson has had back-to-back 500+ receiving yards with along with 11 total touchdowns.
Dotson comes at a time when the Eagles desperately need to fill in the void at WR3 for Philly. The Eagles signed Parris Campbell this offseason and drafted Johnny Wilson and Ainias Smith in hopes of filling the role that was once held by Quez Watkins.
It may take some time for Dotson to get acclimated with his new team’s offense but this could help an already lethal group of playmakers. Philadelphia will heavily rely on A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith throughout the year but Dotson can now be the wild card on Kellen Moore‘s scheme.
Dotson played his first full season as a Commander last year after missing several games during his rookie campaign. But stepped up big last year when their main pass targets went down with injuries.
The Eagles can be very creative with the WR3 portion now that they have Dotson, Campbell, and their two rookies. I would fully expect Dotson to be the guy there unless he takes a little longer to get acclimated. It’s a big win for Philly at a pretty significant cost.
