The Philadelphia Eagles hit the NovaCare Comples on Sunday for another Training Camp practice. A Sunday funday for the players involved a practice just over an hour and a quick media session before returning home. Here’s all you need to know from another day of action.

Eagles Injury report

The Eagles were bit by a small injury bug for the first time this offseason. 2 players were out with illlness while minor setbacks for Oren Burks, Parris Campbell, Tyler Steen and Brandon Smith sidelined them for Sunday’s session.

With Becton and Steen both absent, the Eagles were tested for interior depth. Rookie Trevor Keegan and depth OL Brett Toth stepped up to the plate, but it’s clear that depth is lacking. Becton can play at both tackle and guard, but in an instance where Landon Dickerson rotated out today and MB wasn’t around, it became clear how steep the drop-off currently is from starters to developmental prospects.

The good news is that fringe-level starters are plentiful around trade circles and free agents. If Howie Roseman feels the need to bolster the unit, he can. It was also a positive day for Toth and Keegan, who got first-team exposure which will be great for their own progression.

Another player to benefit from today’s absences was Jeremiah Trotter Jr. The rookie was able to get some expanded reps left over by Oren Burks. With the Eagles looking to see what depth is like behind Devin White, Zack Baun and Nakobe Dean figure to be the next two players in line for significant snaps, but if Trotter can take advantage of these opportunities, there’s no reason he can’t join them.

Quinyon Mitchell is finding his feet

Just a few days after chirping A.J Brown following a successful one-on-one rep, rookie CB Quinyon Mitchell faced another scenario to prove himself today by going against DeVonta Smith. History repeated itself, with Mitchell lacking no confidence in trying to assert his authority over Smitty.

It’s really encouraging to see the young corner consistently putting in good shifts and building his confidence at the NFL level. There doesn’t appear to be much fear in the Toledo product, and going against Smitty, who made yet another headline catch today and is having an extremely strong Summer, is one way to turn some heads and show he’s ready for a starting role.

Defensive tackles dominate

Perhaps one of the biggest winners of Sunday’s practice was Moro Ojomo. A seventh-round selection from the 2023 NFL Draft, Ojomo, along with Milton Williams, were both noted as making some noise in the trenches on Sunday.

In this new scheme, defensive tackle depth will be important. With a more prominent focus on outside linebackers, there’s a strong chance we see 2 and 3-man DT formations, which means Williams and Ojomo will be called on behind Carter and Davis, so building a solid foundation is key. So far, so good.

Britain Covey’s sizzling summer

Another Eagles wideout having a strong Summer is Britain Covey. The perennial special teaser with elite speed appears to have taken a real step forward in Training Camp, making big catches on a routine basis. Covey will have a chance to prove himself worthy of a larger role in the preseason, and a couple of big receptions could give him a solid stature in the receiving rotation.
