The Flyers’ newest addition, Matvei Michkov, will get his chance to “meet the players” and “watch the game” on Monday night as an honored guest of the Philadelphia Phillies. The young Flyers forward arrived at JFK Airport last weekend in New York last Tuesday sporting an orange Phillies cap before being whisked back to the Flyers Traning Center in Voorhees, New Jersey.

At the press conference the following day, Michkov expressed his desire to see a baseball game at Citizens Bank Park in South Philadelphia, the glorious baseball playground. According to an email sent to Philadelphia Phillies ticket holders late Sunday night, the hockey player will get to live out another dream tomorrow evening as he is scheduled to throw out the ceremonial first pitch.

We have no clue how much Michkov knows about baseball, but “game recognizes game”. The pre-game meeting between Michkov, MLB star Bryce Harper, and the rest of his baseball pals will be epic. Harper has become the designated Philadelphia ambassador since arriving in 2019. He will undoubtedly have some advice to share with the rookie despite playing different sports.

Bryce Harper knows a little bit about joining a professional sports league as a 19-year-old, as Michkov is looking to do this upcoming fall. Harper debuted in the MLB with the Washington Nationals in 2012 after being selected at the top of the 2010 draft. Harper embarked on the superstar trajectory by swatting 22 home runs in his inaugural campaign in 2012.

This game will represent the first live sports experience for Matvei Michkov on South Broad Street. A Philadelphia Phillies versus New York Yankees has got to be a dream matchup to impress the Russian forward with the craziness that comes along with the Philadelphia live event experience.

The fact that the game features a legendary, well-renowned baseball team like the New York Yankees is an added bonus. With major sluggers in opposing pinstripes, Michkov will get his first taste of Philly fandom if/when the ball flies out of the park to light up that giant red glowing bell in centerfield at The Bank.
