Travis Konecny signed an eight-year $8.75M contract extension with the Philadelphia Flyers yesterday, finally putting all the trade rumors can be put to rest. The 27-year-old forward who led the NHL last season with six short-handed goals gets the money he deserves. There were a lot of rumors circulating that the forward was asking for $10M, but he is still getting a big check with a total of $70M over the next eight years. This is one of the most significant contracts in Flyers history.
Travis Konecny talks to the media after signing huge extension
Besides TK being a staple of this team on the ice, off the ice, his presence is just as significant. TK is one of the more vocal players in the locker room if you couldn’t tell by his chirpy nature on the ice.
When Konecny spoke to the media following his extension, he mentioned that he wanted to remain in Philadelphia. Over the past month, the general manager of the Flyers, Danny Briere, even talked about wanting Konecny to remain a Flyer for the rest of his career. Konecny highlighted how well the organization has treated him- specifically Danny Briere and Keith Jones. He detailed how the duo has an open-door policy and comes to the locker room after the games. “They’ve (Breire and Jones) done a phenomenal job, and that’s been the one year,” Konecny.
The most riveting part of Konecny’s contract extension was that the newest media member, Travis Sanheim, broke it. Sanheim signed a big contract, so the defenseman had fun with his other “Travis” staying in the orange and black.
Konecny commented boldly, “I want to win the Stanley Cup, which I believe we can do in Philly.” Matvei Michkov shared his confidence in wanting to win the cup the day prior, and now, Konecny, there is a new source of energy circulating with the Flyers players about winning.
