The day has finally come that the Flyers‘ seventh overall draft pick from the 2023 draft, Matvei Michkov, has arrived in Philadelphia. Michkov was playing in the KHL, but due to an unexpected announcement that his contract was terminated (KHL), he was finally able to sign his ELC with the team. Flyers general manager Danny Briere and President of Hockey Operations Keith Jones were spotted at JFK (New York airport) picking up Michkov.
Social media played a huge role in showing the timeline of the star forward. On Monday, he posted a photo on a plane, which led many to believe he was starting his travel journey to Philadelphia.
At the airport yesterday (JFK), Michkov was wearing a Philadelphia Phillies baseball cap and a Flyers polo. Seeing Michkov decked out in Philly apparel as he embarks on his journey wearing the orange and black was refreshing. Jones was seen carrying a suitcase, and Danny Briere carried Michkov’s sticks.
Following the airport, the three continued on their journey to the Flyers’ training center in Vorhees, New Jersey. When Michkov went to the facility, he was already on the bikes working out after almost a full day’s worth of travel. Michkov met Oliver Bonk, Hunter McDonald, and other prospects at the training center.
Luckily, the festivities don’t end for Michkov as on Wednesday at 11 a.m. EST, he will meet with the media alongside an interpreter (Russian) to have his first media available in Philadelphia. Michkov will also get presented with his sweater, which is confirmed he will wear #39.
Ever since the news broke that he is coming over, it’s been the hottest-selling Flyers sweater this off-season among fans. Michkov’s name plate is already set up on his locker at the training center. With a big travel day concluded, it is exciting to see the future of the Flyers finally in Philadelphia after seeing much unknown.
