It’s been a bumpy offseason for Eagles Head Coach Nick Sirianni. After a disappointing end to the 2023 season, his job security was up in the air, and his coordinators fired. Although Sirianni did survive the storm, the aftermath was prevalent and the conversations did anything but slow down…until today.
Jalen Hurts & Nick Sirianni: A relationship called into question
The discourse started a few months back when Jalen Hurts openly avoided going to bat for his Head Coach when asked about the teams’ downfall in 2023. Some took his response as a lack of confidence in Sirianni, others simply viewed it as Hurts being the stoic leader he’s always been.
Dianna Russini of The Athletic then recently posted a story stating that the two had endured a disconnect, pushing the responsibility of the offensive blow up on the Head Coach and spotlighting a relationship that has often been questioned due to their stark differences in personality.
Sirianni & Hurts speak at Eagles Training Camp
Both Sirianni and Jalen Hurts met with the media after the opening practice of Eagles Training Camp and naturally, questions were asked over the nature of their relationship.
According to NBC Sports Philadelphia, the Eagles Head Coach stated:
“The only thing you can judge your relationships on is your personal interactions with people, not any report that comes out. “Jalen and I’s relationship is good…
…I’m so excited for him and I to get into our fourth year together.”
Hurts was of course asked about the same situation, telling reporters that he trusts his Head Coach to lead the team in the right direction. He expanded on that by saying that everyone has to be fully committed regardless of their role and that last year has equipped him to tackle whatever this season has in store.
Hurts and Sirianni will be entering their 4th year together, so familiarity and confidence should be at an all-time high. It was nice to see both parties calm the flames after an offseason where the temperature only rose. Hopefully that puts an end to all the discourse…for now.
