76ers to win the 2023-24 NBA Championship: +800
Paul George has signed a max $212M contract with the 76ers with the intent of one last run at a ring. He joins the likes of the dominant Joel Embiid and the NBA’s most-improved player of 2023, Tyrese Maxey, who also signed a huge new extension on Monday, cementing his place in the team for five more years.
Tobias Harris, who had often been criticized by fans in the latter stages of his tenure, has now departed and the new-look Sixers are already taking shape. They arguably have the best big-3 in the NBA, with Maxey, and George both providing a new sense of spacing and shooting proficiency to aid the relentless dominance of Joel Embiid.
The Sixers really do have a legitimate shot of winning a championship now. That big-3 is supported by a plethora of growing role players, and providing that the core starters can stay healthy, this team has every chance of finally getting back to where they belong after years of heartbreak.
The late-season rally under Nick Nurse highlighted just how good this team can be, and Morey has left no stone unturned in a bid to ensure his team fulfils that potential.
Sure, their playoff record is questionable at best, but the veteran presence of Paul George will count for a lot, and the rest of the team have now endured plenty of growing pains to prepare for a run at one of their biggest rivals – the Boston Celtics. Nick Nurse maintained a 23-19 record in the postseason before the 2023 playoffs and that of course includes going the distance to win the 2019 NBA Championship.
